Community service hours or a service-learning experience is now a graduation requirement for Milwaukee Public Schools. These experiences meet real community needs – locally and globally – while exposing students to career pathways and giving them practice with the skills that are valued by employers.

Here are a few of the many ways community partners can get involved in the service-learning process.

  • Serve as an “issue expert.” Help students and teachers understand community issues and needs from diverse perspectives. Share strategies your organization or business uses to address community needs. Assist students in setting measurable goals and evaluating outcomes of their service projects.
  • Serve as (or help teachers and students locate) a site for their service projects.
  • Provide opportunities for students to serve your organization in a way that strengthens your ability to forward your mission.
  • Reflect, evaluate, and celebrate with students and teachers.
